Heart Valve Skirt & Device Coverings

Custom designed implantable medical fabrics, whether woven, knitted or braided, can be developed for use in structural heart implants, such as implantable valves, valve repair devices and occlusion devices. The choice of material, fabric thickness, pore size, strength and compliance, are just some of the characteristics that can be optimised to your requirements. The fabric can also be laser trimmed to avoid fraying and shape formed to conform to the underlying implant.

Valve Skirts

A full range of flat, tubular and tapered fabrics can be produced for use in structural heart, to suit every type of device and application, whether knitted woven or braided these biomedical textiles are further enhanced using a wide range of post processing capabilities.

Ultra-low profile woven fabric can be manufactured for use as heart valve skirts. These can have a profile thickness of 40 microns (0.015”), while maintaining a permeability sub 300 ml/cm²/ min.

The biomedical textiles can also be laser cut, shape formed to match implant geometry, ultrasonically welded for ease of assembly or coated with an elastomer.

Annuloplasty Rings

Annuloplasty rings are an established surgical device used for the repair of mitral valves. Aran Biomedical offers braided and tubular knit fabrics that can be used in an annuloplasty ring outer sheath. The fabric can be shape formed, laser machined, sewn, bonded or ultrasonically welded, depending on the design configuration and assembly requirements.

Whether flexible, semi-rigid or stiff in design, a core can be developed for the annuloplasty ring to meet preferred mechanical performance. Custom tethers or sutures can also be developed to facilitate device placement.
